Ruh Roh! I’ve Been Very Bad…

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU So, my reasoning behind this…. purchase, thought some may see it as either damnation or salvation, is fourfold. One - I consider it a somewhat rare thing to find. Two - I just got my pay. Three - I won’t have time to consider actually playing it until the christmas holidays. And four - If worse comes to worst, I can always ebay it for over 9000 GBP. This sucker is still in it’s selafane… Selaphane?To think that people are even sitting down and playing this right now, and not the mound of awesome games out at the moment. Gears 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2, LittleBigPlanet, Left 4 Dead and CoD: World at War. That’s just some of what I’ve been cramming into my weekend gaming sessions. There’s still Mirrors Edge, Rock Band 2, Dead Space. Prince of Fucking Persia isn’t even out yet. So in a big Marcus Fenix fashion, I say to you all:AWWW COME AWNN!There’ll be pleanty of time to re-addict yourself in the spring-summer when there’s shit all coming out. I’ve already picked my Game of the Year, and it isn’t a freaking expansion pack. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got 3 Super Mutants to kill and 14 Mini Nukes to do it with…. Wait…. Breaking Radio Silence: Thoughts From The Lithgow On Fallout 3

Getting a good conversation in Fails’ about anything game related is a bit hard. So I resort to emails. To preface, this began with a mutual photomessaging of Fallout 3 Collectors Edition Vault Boy Bobbleheads. The Lithgow, as henceforth he shall be known, one-upped my with a image of not one but two Bobbleheads. I have a few gripes and such but its a good first attempt and im pretty sure once the fans get a hold of the construction set we can see a fuck tonne more content (got it on the PC FYI) The mysterious stranger has been a perk since the first fallout game. In the original games you traveled through the wastelands via a big map and hit random encounters JRPG style. If you had the mysterious stranger perk you often had an extra dude pimp his way in and help you out for kicks. Same story with Dogmeat whos been in every game so far. Just a bit of fan service. The humor seemes to have taken a bit of a backseat unfortunatley, most of the classic fallout humor seemes limited to the converstations in this game, not the actions, but hey again hopefuly get some new content as I was saying. Completed it on the good guy storyline and was dissapointed (not sure if you have finished it yet) but its the first ever fallout game where if you complete the (albiet very short) storyline the game actually ends. One of my fav things in the past fallout games was wandering around the wastes after you completed the game talking to folk and seeing how you affected the world. You were seen by different people as a hero/villan and they acted accordingly -shrug- So now im rolling again and just enjoying myself this time, ignoring most of the storyline and just exploring etc is great fun so far. One thing I am VERY dissapointed about this time the the use of the SPEECH skill in this game. Previously it was always used to get extra infomration out of people, unlock extra quests, talk yourself out of trouble, get cool bargains from traders/secret items. As a result I maxed it out pretty quickly in this game. But the only use for it in this one seemes to be skipping quests and fast tracking the storyline It honestly took me about 3-4 hours to get through the story…eg: Me: “Where is my father?” Quest Giver: “Ill only tell you if you do this really cool mission for me…” Me: “No seriously where is my father -Waves hands in Jedi mind trick style-” Quest Giver: “Well since you put it that way…hes over there…have a nice trip.” Rinse and repeat…kinda dull really. Its the same for perks like child at heart etc. Also most of the skills are prety pointless to level up…for example, there is a safe next to a locked terminal…now I leveled up both my science and lockpick skill in the theory that I could open up everything in the game. So I open up the safe using lockpick…then I hack the terminal and the only option is to unlock the safe…then I walk outside and kill a dude…who has either 1: the terminal password or 2: the safe key -.- So what was the point in raising those skills if you can get into it by just killing some random motherfucker? Makes me think they wanted everybody to be able to do everything reguardless of what skills they took..which just isn’t fallout IMO. You should come up against a door that basicaly says “Hey there is tonnes of cool shit behind this door, but you are shit and cannot get in here..fuck you dipshit should have leveled lockpick.” That should be it…not “Hey friend..whats wrong? cant lockpick? oh dont worry try the terminal…no luck? oh well you can steal the key from that guy…dont worry ill wait…oh you failed at that too…well look just kill the dude already…I dont have all day.” Same goes for the weapon skills, In the previous fallout games you had to work your way up the ladder per say. You started with small guns, then energy weapons then big guns. There was no point in pouring all your skill points into energy/big guns since you never found any till about midway through the game, and they were always indefinetly more powerful that the previous one. Yet in this game the first mall I went into had 3 lazer pistols and enough ammo to destroy a small city… and the first group of mutants I killed had 2 miniguns and again a lifetimes supply of ammo…yet I never used them because having max skill small guns and max skill big gins = the same ammount of damage in the long run without the excess weight and upkeep costs. So again if feels like there is no real progression weapon wise. When I completed the story I was still using a hunting rifle and the best weapon in the game I found so far was the sniper rifle…not the 4 lazer gatling cannnons I acumulated. Aaaaaaaaanyway..ive been ranting for a bit now…so yeah its ok as a starting point, but it will really improve once you give the fans the construction set…example. During the G.O.A.T test at the start there is a question about growing a mutated arm out of your chest…what do you do? 1: Remove it 2:Kill yourself 3:Hide it……..But OBVIOUSLY the real answer is “Give it a gun and hope it is on your side” ^^ It takes a very SPECIAL mindset to get into the fallout humor…and nobody knows fallout beter than the fans…and on that note…signing off. Finished the main story line by the end of last weekend, but that’s not to say that I didn’t diverge from the main quest.Infact, I did skip quite alot of it. Unintnetionally. There’s a quest in megaton, “The Wasteland Survival Guide”, and at some point it asks you to go to Rivet City to talk to some dudes. I went and talked to Dr Asian-name-but-clearly-not by accident and gave me her first part of the main quest. So I skipped both “Following in his Footsteps” and “Galaxy News Radio”. And when I discovered both those quests had Achievements linked to them I was like FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU…Achievement list here btw -> http://www.achieve360points.com/game/fallout3/Guess what system I’m playing it on I will need to play it again and again to get all of them, which I fully intend to do.So I’ll reserve proper judgement on the main quest when I play it through properly, but yeah, it is kinda lacking. Tranquility lane = Fucking awesome!. What is awesome is the world in general and the sidequests. Stealing Independance was freaking rad and so was all the vaulty ones, “Trouble on the home front” for example. Played through with good karma, and I’m inclined to be an ass-hole next time. Achievements being one of the reasons :DOn skills, I agree with you. After a couple of hours, my leveling up focus was centered around getting Lockpicking, Science and Speech up to the highest levels, simply to remove barriers in the game. Alot of the problems seem to stem from the game’s Oblivionizims - you know what I mean. But yeah, Mod community should root out some of the problems, or dare I say… Fallout 4.That might be a while tho, As I’ve heard about the Ko Ta Ku, they’ll be working on Elder Scrolls 5 until 2012 or something. Maybe an expansion would be nice, though judging from the oblivion ones, changes to core gameplay aren’t to their Forte.Mind if I publish your rant on the Blog?
